GIPAIF Submits Charter of Demands to GIPSA Chairperson and CMD of New India Assurance

As the birth anniversary of Late Shri Kaka Samant falls on 2nd July, GIPAIF intended to mark the occasion by presenting our Charter of Demands to the Chairperson of GIPSA and CMD of New India Assurance, as a tribute to the founder’s vision and continued efforts for the betterment of pensioners.

However, due to an urgent summons by the Secretary, Department of Financial Services (DFS) in Delhi, Mrs. Girija Subramaniam, Chairperson, GIPSA, could not be present on 2nd July.

Despite this, on 3rd July, a GIPAIF delegation comprising Mr. U. Banerjee, Mr. Shyam Mathur, Mr. Mohan Paranjpe, Mr. Vilas Sawant, Mr. Vijay Agate, and Mr. P. V. Adhikari formally submitted the Charter of Demands to Mrs. Subramaniam. A separate copy was also handed over to her in her capacity as the CMD of New India Assurance.

Key Highlights of the Meeting:

  • We requested the Chairperson to initiate a discussion with GIPAIF immediately after the conclusion of wage revision for existing employees, emphasizing the long-pending issues faced by pensioners.

  • Particular concern was expressed regarding the hardships faced by pensioners due to LIC’s recent centralization of pension disbursement, shifting it from the four Metro Divisional Offices (DOs) to the Central Office.

    • Upon hearing our concerns, Mrs. Subramaniam directed GM (Personnel), Ms. Jayashree Nair, to treat the issue with urgency.

    • After repeated insistence by the delegation, the Chairperson assured us that she and GM(P) would soon meet the LIC Chairman to address and resolve the matter.

  • We also highlighted that banks and LIC have started granting ad-hoc or lump sum benefits to their pensioners as interim relief until a basic pension revision is implemented.

    • We strongly advocated for similar relief measures for GIPSA pensioners once the wage revision for existing employees is concluded.

    • We reminded her that the former CEO of GIPSA had noted that data was received from some companies but not all.

    • The Chairperson instructed the GM(P) to prepare a formal note and present it in the upcoming GIPSA meeting.

  • Following this, a detailed discussion with GM(P) was held on several other persistent issues affecting pensioners.

  • The delegation also had a courtesy meeting with Ms. Kasturi SenguptaExecutive Director, during the visit.

We are hopeful that our concerns and proposals will be acted upon positively and in a timely manner.
